Today’s the day!

Hello everyone! Today is the day that Jay and Pamela season 2 premieres on TLC.  I had the pleasure, along with a good friend of mine who I consider my adopted little brother of interviewing Jay and Pamela about their new season.  For those who don’t know, Bob is known online as DJ Bob.  For the last 16 years, he has created and run a podcast that interviews notable people in the children’s television space, the disability space, and beyond.  So, being that this interview touched on two subjects he finds important, he decided to do an episode about it.  He knows how much I love the show because Jay and Pamela both have the same diseases I do. That disease is osteogenesis imperfecta type 3. At the bottom of this article, I will make sure to include a link to the show itself. Unfortunately, I cannot embed the podcast into my website because it is not hosted on a public server,  but rather on an individual website.

I do want to include a snippet of my opinion about how the interview went and something that I deemed important that we spoke about. The subject matter was about how season 2 is more frank than the previous season about their struggles.  We were given by TLC  temporary access to the first two episodes.  In them, J and Pamela were able to show, just by having me audience experience it along with them, things that able-bodied people may not realize are a struggle for someone in a wheelchair. For example, at one point before going on a trip, they actually stopped at a mattress store for a few hours to pick out a new mattress. They had to be very careful about which one they picked, as, like me, they both have serious back issues that cause them a considerable amount of pain.  The audience also got to witness them traveling to another state, and the extra steps needed to get on a plane, find an accessible taxi, and get around the city in their chairs.  They have similar chairs to mine because, like me, they need a chair that has a seat elevator.   The fact is people with a OI are short, and because of this we need help in the height department. The elevator is a way for us to reach things that we wouldn’t normally be able to in a different wheelchair.  I do not know for a fact, but I would not be surprised if the brand of wheelchair that they used was Permobile I believe they are a Swedish company, and that not only have the seat elevator, but you can also have headlights and horn comparable to cars.

All in all I thought both episodes were important thought-provoking and a strong start to the second season I really believe it’s going to open up a lot of people’s eyes to the struggles that we go through that doesn’t alienate the audience but rather teaches them that even though we have challenges people in chairs can still have a really great life.  so I implore you to listen to this episode on DJ Bob’s website you will not be disappointed and make sure to tune in to Jay and Pamela on TLC tonight At 10:00 p.m. eastern time.  You can also watch it the next day if you have an HBO Max subscription.  so even if you miss the  episode on cable it’ll still be waiting for you on HBO Max from the following day onward.
